Cycling: Spinning
Spinning cycling is one of the most effective and enjoyable way to lose those extra pounds. But there’s a lot more benefits from making spinning your favourite training system. Spinning will increase your cardiovascular endurance and tone your legs. So what is spinning cycling/
The last word gives you half a clue. It’s indoor cycling but not to be mistaken with a normal cycling machine that you see lined up in every gym. A spinning cycle is totally different. It is designed to replicate a real road bike as its main purpose in life is to be used by cyclists for training.
It’s not always possible to get out and train so the spinning bike was designed to replicate real road biking inside. It is different to the standard exercise bike in many ways, one of them being the position of the rider. The spinning bike, made to ride indoors like a road bike, allows the rider to adjust their posture to how they would ride their road bikes.
Another difference is the resistance method used on the bike. A spinning bike uses a heavy flywheel linked directly to the peddles, a bit like a fixed wheel bike. A good spinning class is led by an experienced instructor who will lead the tempo of the class using music.
You can expect to burn around 600 calories in a 40-minute class. The instructor will take the pace up and down and may add weights into the training routine. I’ve been training all my life and can honestly say that I’ve never felt that I’ve honestly pushed myself to the limit until I started spinning. It’s a total workout that gets your heart pumping to the maximum.
The movements of the spinning class are dictated by the instructor and are designed to cover the challenges a road cyclist faces. You will have sprint phases as well as hill climbing phases. It really is a challenging class to take. As a cyclist, I can say that it is the closest to the real thing that you will get indoors.
Being a class led activity you will be spurred to greater efforts by other members of the class and achieve far more than you would sat on a standard exercise bike. Forty minutes of spinning is worth an hour of training on your own because the intensity is driven by the instructor who will drive you to greater efforts.
If you haven’t tried spinning cycling then I can highly recommend it. Once you try it, you will have discovered an excellent training system that will meet all your cardio requirements. Spinning is not only fun but also one of the most effective training methods there is for improving cardio fitness levels.
